Hi my name is Jessica and I am a pre-PA! I am planning on applying in the 2023-2024 cycle. I have my B.S. in Health Science and am currently working a PCE job as a Patient Care Tech in PCU. My cumulative GPA is 3.12, science GPA is 3.07, and my last 60 credits GPA is 3.42. Obviously my GPA is not the most competitive so I am looking at programs that are taking more holistic approaches and trying to strengthen other areas of my application. I have 4089 hours of PCE, 3800 as a Patient Support Technician in Neuro ICU, the rest in my current position. I also have 5200 hours of HCE, 1720 as a surgical coordinator and 3480 hours as a patient care coordinator in a physical therapy clinic. I have about 35 hours of virtually shadowing PAs, and 12 hours of shadowing a dermatology PA (still doing this about once a month). I am also planning on shadowing an orthopedic surgery PA in the OR in the next few months. I have 39 hours of shadowing as of right now: 3 hours in a food pantry, 6 hours working a back to school event for the underserved community, and 30 hours as a physical therapy aide. I have 64 hours of teaching experience from when I was a TA for 2 semesters of an anatomy/physiology class. I also have 232 hours of leadership experience: 220 hours as a patient care coordinator mentor and 12 hours as a PCT preceptor. I have not yet taken the GRE but I am currently studying for that. Right now I am working on gaining more PCE, shadowing, and volunteer hours. I am looking for any tips for pre-PAs but especially any in regards to the Casper test, personal statements, and CASPA experience descriptions!
Thank you for sharing your story!
PRE-PA TIPS:
1. Watch my Personal Statement Video on how to craft the perfect PA personal statement!
2. CASPA Experiences: The KEY to becoming a competitive applicant is to state what you learned or skills you acquired for each experience! Make sure that none of your experiences are repetitive. Each experience should serve a unique purpose.
